Oshkosh Updates
The Girbau Board of Directors were in Oshkosh last week to formally celebrate the ribbon cutting of its dryer assembly facility in Oshkosh’s Southwest Industrial Park. This is Girbau’s first North American manufacturing facility and the Oshkosh Chamber is proud to support the continued growth of Girbau in our community.

City of Oshkosh Employment Data
Oshkosh’s unemployment rate for August 2025 rang in at 3.2 percent, up a notch from July and an increase from the August 2024 mark of 2.9 percent. Total employment in Oshkosh for August was 34,202, more than 660 fewer positions from the same time a year ago. Overall, the city’s total labor force declined from 35,920 a year ago to 35,315 this past August, a loss of nearly 600 workers. Click here to view data.

Wisconsin and US Employment Data
Wisconsin’s August unemployment rate held steady at 3.2 percent, the same rate recorded a month earlier, but was an increase from year-ago levels of 2.9 percent. There were 3,043,193 state residents working in August, a sharp decline of nearly 58,000 employees statewide compared with August 2024. The national unemployment rate in August was 4.5 percent, a small decrease from the July jobless rate of 4.6 percent.

Winnebago County Employment Data
Winnebago County’s unemployment rate for August crept down to 3.0 percent, a one-tenth point decrease from a month earlier, but still up from the 2.7 percent rate recorded during August 2024. Total employment of 89,334 positions across Winnebago County decreased more than 1,700 jobs from August 2024 employment figures of 91,068 jobs. Winnebago County’s overall labor force dropped more than 1,400 workers compared with the same time a year ago, from 93,588 during August 2024 to 92,123 workers this past August. A group of Oshkosh Chamber members including members from its Government Relations committee attended the annual WMC Business Day at Monona Terrace in Madison on October 23rd. The event brought hundreds of business leaders from all over the state together to discuss important issues facing the business community and our state.
Oshkosh Chamber advocates for the business interests of our members and the Oshkosh area business community to ensure business perspectives and inputs are represented, heard, and considered concerning current and proposed policies at the local, State, and federal levels.

Education & Talent Development

Youth Leadership Oshkosh had an inspiring Health & Human Services Day in October. Their day started at Aurora with a warm welcome from Dr. Hendrick Schulz and a presentation from Michelle Vlies, Director of HR who shared all the various careers in healthcare. Kate Stel, Donor Engagement Manager for United Way led the students through a Choices &Challenges exercise simulating living on a low-income budget. This also included a tour of Aurora where they had the chance to ask questions to the professionals along the way.Then class traveled to Miravida Living with an incredible day of presentations and activities led by Julie Maslowski, Director of Senior Living and her team. They learned about all the career options including CNA opportunities/benefits that they can pursue while in high school. They finished with Trishaw rides. The final stop of the day was at UWO-College of Nursing, Health Professions and STEM where Dean SoonYoon Chung welcomed students, and the team took the students on a tour of the simulation section. They got to see first-hand the technology in action and finish with an AI patient interview!

Class of 2026 Completed History & Community Planning Day. The class spent the morning at the Oshkosh Public Museum learning about the history of Oshkosh and the long-term impact on our community. This included a walk through the historical Riverside cemetery. In the afternoon, the class heard from Amy Albright, Executive Director of Discover Oshkosh, Sean Fitzgerald, and Sara Rukowski, City of Oshkosh Community Development Director on the future developments in Oshkosh. They finished the day with a bus tour of the city. Afterward, they were welcomed by alumni at the annual Leadership Oshkosh Alumni event held at The Waters. The Class of 2026 has chosen the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry for the organization they will be fundraising for.
