Oshkosh Public Library and Wisconsin DWD partner on JobPod
The partnership between the Oshkosh Public Library (OPL) and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is set for its grand openings and ribbon cutting on January 9th. This partnership will provide job seeker services which includes a dedicated JobPod on the library's second floor. This collaboration is part of a broader, statewide effort by the Wisconsin Public Library System and the DWD to assist residents with job searching and workforce development. The agreement aims to provide both online and in-person job search assistance tools to anyone in need of help, making these essential services readily available within the community. The library's participation aligns with its strategic planning goal of being community-driven and responsive to new challenges, such as those arising from the pandemic and changing job market dynamics.
ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh Opening Soon
ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh is nearing its January 19th completion date at 250 W. 6th Ave, Oshkosh. This micro-hospital is adding new jobs to the community and services, including emergency care and primary/specialty services. Mill on Main Updates
The Oshkosh Chamber EDAC group was afforded the opportunity to take a site tour of the phase 1 building at the new Mill on Main development in the Sawdust district on S Main St. The five-story building features 115 residential units, a clubhouse with amenities such as: a communal space, a gym, and a golf simulator. The property also includes five commercial spaces and an additional 2-story waterfront commercial space. Advocap Groundbreaking
Advocap had a groundbreaking in December for their new childcare incubator that is being developed off Jackson Street to help address local childcare shortages. This first-of-its-kind childcare facility will have incubator spaces replicating small homes, that will be independently owned and operated small businesses.
2025 Unemployment Data Updates
Unemployment numbers for the end of the year are largely unavailable due to the government shutdown. Reporting for October has been cancelled and November numbers will not be available until sometime mid-January, with the December unemployment information being released at the end of January. Moving into February, the reporting should be back on schedule.

City of Oshkosh Employment Data
The city’s unemployment rate for September was 2.7%, down from the rate of 3.2% during August and up .1% from a year ago September. There were 33,772 Oshkosh residents working this September compared with 34,907 during the same month of 2024, marking a loss of over 1,100 positions in the city year over year.

Wisconsin and US Employment Data
Statewide, unemployment for September registered 2.7%, down a decent margin from the 3.2% rate a month earlier, and still far below the national average of 4.3%. Total employment in September was just more than 3.01 million working state residents, down over 90,000 workers from the same month a year ago.

Winnebago County Employment Data
Winnebago County’s unemployment rate for September was 2.5%, .5% down from August and up a bit from the 2.3% unemployment rate last September. There were 88,211 county residents working this September, down almost 3,000 workers from the same month in 2024.

Oshkosh Chamber hosts Roundtable with Congressman Glenn Grothman
Members of the Oshkosh Chamber Board of Directors and Government Relations Committee recently held a roundtable discussion featuring Congressman Glenn Grothman focused on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). The event was co-hosted by the U.S. Chamber and the Oshkosh Chamber and the discussion provided attendees the opportunity to share their perspectives on how current tax policies and OBBBA might impact their business. Issues discussed included rising health care costs, the impacts of Government shutdowns, childcare access, the border, tariffs and more.

Youth Leadership Oshkosh enjoyed a meaningful Arts & Culture Day filled with creativity, reflection, and connection. The group visited the Paine Art Center and Gardens with a tour of the historic mansion, and The Nutcracker in the Castle, while also creating gratitude ornaments—highlighting gratitude as an essential trait of strong leaders. They also learned about the various career opportunities in the arts. The day concluded with class participation in a drum circle, where students experienced the power of rhythm and the importance of human connection. Together, these activities reinforced how arts and culture help develop community, teamwork, and leadership.

Leadership Oshkosh Class of 2026 enjoyed an inspiring Arts & Culture Day celebrating creativity and community. The day began at the Paine Art Center and Gardens with a lesson in art appreciation, a tour of the historic mansion, and a visit to The Nutcracker in the Castle. Participants then shared an incredible lunch at Manila, followed by an energizing drum circle at the Rhythm Institute.
